We show free train movies at The Great Scale Model Train
Show in Timonium MD...
We show a variety of films on railroading subjects in
our movie room. Many of these are rare classics on original 16mm
film, not available elsewhere. We get many requests to borrow
these films but because many are irreplaceable, we cannot lend them.
You can see them...
at The Great Scale Model Train Show.
LOVE THOSE TRAINS - A National Geographic one-hour special on the
great train rides of the world, including the Durango-Silverton and
the fabulous Orient Express.
THE GENERAL - Considered to be the last
of the great silent comedies, this Buster Keaton classic tells the story of
the Great Locomotive Chase during the Civil War and features the original
locomotives used during the chase, brought out of retirement just for the
making of this movie.
N.Y. CENTRAL STEAM ENGINE - A classic movie from
the film library of the New York Central Railroad which shows how they take a
steam engine locomotive and do a complete maintenance check. This film dates
from the late 1940's.
MODEL RAILROADING UNLIMITED - Probably the
funniest film made on model railroading. This overview of railroading has
everything from how to get started to the operation of a computerized train
layout that puts all trains at full throttle when a power surge disrupts
operations. This film has everything from trains, musical numbers and
railroad dancing girls!
MAGIC OF MODEL RAILROADING - A great
introduction on how to get started in the hobby of model railroading, told
with a comic flair.
NEW YORK CALLING - A film from the early 1950's
produced by the New York Central Railroad designed originally to be shown to
promote visiting NYC by rail. The film shows all the services the New York
Central can provide to make the trip enjoyable.
SO YOU WANT A MODEL RAILROAD - Hal Roach had Laurel & Hardy, Columbia
Pictures had The Three
Stooges, and Warner Brothers had the Joe McDoakes "Behind the 8-Ball"
series. Watch as Joe gets "model railroad fever" and lets his trains take
over his house - and even serve the meal when his beloved mother-in-law comes
to dinner.
THE IRON PONIES - Very entertaining is this Lionel Christmas
promotional film from the early 1950's originally designed to be shown as a
short subject in theaters at holiday time.
BARNEY OLDFIELD'S RACE FOR A LIFE - A classic example of the early Keystone comedy
where the villain ties the fair damsel to the railroad tracks with the hero
(and the Keystone Cops) coming to the rescue.
THE BALLAD OF THE IRON
HORSE - An Emmy-award television special detailing the building of the first
Transcontinental Railroad.
GO SLOW ON THE BRIGHTON LINE - Take a quick
trip from the heart of London to the seaside town of Brighton. The camera is
mounted on the front of the engine so you see everything from the
engineer's perspective. With high-speed photography, the film completes the
over-200 mile journey in less than 4 minutes.
THE RAILROAD STORY -
Originally a theatrical release from the 1940's, this film highlights a boy's
dream of becoming a railroad engineer and taking a passenger train
coast-to-coast.
In
addition to our movie room, railroad videos are run constantly by
several show attendees throughout the hall. You can see
everything from non-stop steam run-bys to that famous little blue
engine the kids LOVE!
